Dr. Gary Namie explains workplace bullying

Workplace bullying is NOT simply tough management. While it takes several forms, it is always repeated, health-harming mistreatment that disrupts the productive flow of work.

This interview of Dr. Gary Namie of the Workplace Bullying Institute explains this hateful behavior. While the WBI is located in Bellingham, Washington, the Drs. Ruth and Gary Namie, are psychologists with an international reputation. Thanks to their 15-year dedication to exposing this silent epidemic of abuse, they have helped to educate the United States and Canada to this key problem in the North American workforce.

While watching, keep in mind that status-blind (non-discriminatory) workplace bullying is presently legal! Most Americans believe that all harassment is against the law. Not so. Will Illinois become the first state to pass this progressive, common-sense law?

Please support Illinois legislation: "Abusive Work Environments Act," presently House Bill 374.

  1. I am a police officer in NY state. I am active in the effort for workplace violence reform in the NYS Labor Law. I am target of institutionally protected bullying. I was physically struck by a supervisor.I reported the matter witnesses were interviewed. Subsequently the truthful statements were discarded. I was arrested stayed the course and am back to work I now have some "issues" and am cosistantly targeted. A federal suit was dismissed on summary judgement even with audio recordings and 3 1/2 years of documentation, statements from other employess who were targeted or victims, bullying does not fall within the protected classes. The bully is still a bully and the department was not held accountable for the retaliation etc etc. Still I stand. Support Illinois legislation and NY State healthy work place legislation. Don't let them have the satisfaction.

  2. I worked for a business company where people used to get bullied by their superior in the hierarchy. I gave them some education and training related to health and safety but when mentality setup is like that then no body can fix that. God bless that company and the workers.

Share your workplace bullying story. Keep it short. Identify your line of work, 3 examples of the bullying abuse, and the result of your being targeted at work.
